Defence contribution to Australian International Air Show 2007

Defence is playing a major part in the Australian International Air Show 2007, Australia's largest and most comprehensive air show and aerospace exhibition. This is a world class event.

More than 40 ADF aircraft are participating in the air show, representing the full spectrum of Defence's air power.

Air Force's biggest aircraft and its most recent acquisition, the mighty C-17 is attending. Other RAAF aircraft include the F/A-18 Hornets, F-111s, Hawk jet aircraft, C-130s Hercules, PC-9 trainers, a Caribou and a B707 tanker.

Army are showcasing their Black Hawk, Tiger, Kiowa and Iroquois helicopters, while Navy's Seahawk and Sea King helicopters are deploying.

There are also major displays of the ADF's ground-based equipment and capabilities. An Abrams tank, Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV), Navy clearance divers, artillery and military working dogs are among the attractions.

Approximately 600 ADF personnel are deploying to bases throughout Victoria in support of the air show.

Defence sees a number of benefits in contributing to the air show. These include opportunities to:

  • demonstrate the ADF's aviation and surface capabilities to Australia and the world;
  • showcase Defence careers - we are aiming to inspire the next generation of air crew and ground support teams;
  • engage Defence industry, our international military counterparts and the wider Australian community.
