ADF Support to Australian International Air Show 2009

The Australian Defence Force is a major contributor to the Australian International Air Show 2009 at Avalon, Victoria. This is Australia’s largest and most comprehensive air show and aerospace exhibition.
About 50 ADF aircraft representing a wide spectrum of air power will be on display, including nearly all types of aircraft flown by the Royal Australian Air Force. RAAF’s contribution includes:
- F/A-18 Hornet fighter
- F-111 strike bomber
- Hawk lead-in fighter
- C-130 Hercules
- AP-3C Orion
- Caribou
- PC-9
Navy aviation assets include the Seahawk and Squirrel helicopters. Army is sending Black Hawks, Kiowas and a detachment from the Parachute Training School.
Defence’s support to the air show aims to:
- highlight ADF career opportunities
- engage Defence industry and our international military counterparts
- demonstrate the ADF’s aviation and surface capabilities to the Australian community
The air show and aerospace exhibition is an important chance for Defence to emphasise its close working relationship with industry, in particular our contractors and commercial partners in project delivery.
Recruiting is a major focus for the Australian Defence Force at Avalon. We hope the flying displays and the ability to meet military people at the ground displays will inspire young people and help foster the next generation of aviators and ground crews.
There will also be major displays of the ADF’s ground based equipment and capabilities, including a deployable RAAF radar, Army’s Abrams tank and an M113 personnel carrier.
