RAAF Base Edinburgh

The principal Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in South Australia is located at Edinburgh near the site of the Salisbury wartime munitions factory.

RAAF Base Edinburgh is home to Number 92 Wing's maritime patrol aircraft that conduct maritime surveillance operations, and the Aircraft Research and Development Unit that conducts flight-test activities on behalf of the RAAF.

  • Number 10 Squadron - AP-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft [4 engine turbo prop powered aircraft based on the Lockheed Electra commercial freighter]
  • Number 11 Squadron - P8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft [twin engine jet powered aircraft based on the Boeing 737 commercial airliner]
  • Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU) - PC9 - soon to be replaced by PC21 - training aircraft [single engine turbo prop powered aircraft]

    Additionally, any of the aircraft operated by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) may visit RAAF Base Edinburgh.

    RAAF Base Edinburgh is also home to 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, a regular mechanised infantry battalion of the Australian Army.
