Australia’s Federation Guard (AFG) conducted the 2011 Australia Day Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony at Regatta Point, Canberra. The Guard was reviewed for the first time by the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Julia Gillard MP.
The AFG was joined by the Royal Military College Band to showcase the guard of honour parade and flag raising ceremony.
Six artillery guns, manned by members of the AFG, were positioned at Gallipoli Reach on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin. They fired a 21-gun salute as the Flag Raising Ceremony took place.
MAJ Cottis said, “The ceremony was an excellent start to the year, being an event and location of considerable importance. It was a privilege to provide a full Guard for the first time to the Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP.”
