On 12 August 11, Australia’s Federation Guard (AFG) provided a Royal Guard to the Governor-General as she officially opened the Royal Brisbane Show (EKKA).
AFG paraded in front a crowd of thousands who came to watch the opening ceremony. The parade was commanded by Major Cottis, who led 100 AFG personnel in the parade. AFG was supported by the Australian Army Band-Brisbane, who are based in Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera.
Major Cottis afforded a Royal Salute to the Governor General and invited her to inspect the parade. The Governor General inspected the Guard and Band, congratulating them on their magnificent performance and discipline.
After the parade Guardsmen were granted local leave in Brisbane before departing back to Canberra the next day. The next interstate Royal Guard parade will be in Tasmania for the bicentennial anniversary of Anglesea Barracks, Hobart, in December.
