The Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) David Hurley found time in his busy schedule to join Australia’s Federation Guard (AFG) for a physical training (PT) session on Thursday 10 February. VCDF completed the physical training alongside 160 Guardsman, testing what ‘the Guard’ was made of during an intense circuit.
Four of AFG’s Army and Navy Combat Fitness Leaders (CFL) took charge of the circuit which consisted of a combination of exercises such as dips, pull-ups, sit-ups, pushups and a shuttle run.
CFL Corporal Ben Barnard said, “I have never run a PT session for a LTGEN before, but it was excellent to see that he was keen to train with the Guardsmen. He clearly leads by example by taking fitness really seriously.”
Following the one hour session, Guard Sergeant Major, WO2 Michael Dewar, presented an AFG PT shirt to VCDF as an expression of their gratitude for the visit, and to ensure that next time VCDF visited, he was ‘appropriately dressed.’
Before VCDF departed he spoke of how proud he was to see AFG represent the Australian Defence Force in such a positive way and encouraged members to keep up the great work.
Referring to the PT session, LTGEN Hurley said, “They certainly didn't go easy on me. The high intensity circuit was tough and I was impressed by the standard of fitness across the group.”
