Leadership & Ethics
Leadership & Ethics training teaches students leadership in the military context and how to make the right moral choices, consistent with ADF values when faced with challenging issues or dilemmas. The use of virtual environments and actors brings context and a degree of reality into the teaching of leadership and ethics and can be used to practice and supplement lessons learned in a traditional classroom environment. Interactive virtual environments can present scenarios that require students to observe, decide and respond appropriately.
ADC Simulation Products Supporting Leadership & Ethics Training
Faceshift is software that maps the facial expressions of a role player to a computer generated avatar in real time. This allows a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to role play a variety of characters. The software can be used to generate video content or support real-time role play.
Lightwave3D is a 3D graphics software package from NewTek. It is used for modelling, animating and rendering 3D images. The NevronMotion plugin, also from NewTek enables motion data from Microsoft's Kinect camera to be translated to an avatar in real-time within the Lightwave virtual set. The captured performance can be saved for later use.
Through our Avatar Augmented Role Play (AA-RP) project the ADC Simulation Centre is working to bring live role play into virtual environments.
The AA-RP project will use motion capture hardware and software, such as Faceshift and Lightwave3D, to track data on a SME's body movement and facial expressions which are translated onto a suitably attired avatar, resident in an appropriate virtual set. The SME's voice is also captured and the avatar and voice projected to the student in real-time. Students converse with the avatar and both their physical and voice response is captured and relayed to the SME via Video Teleconference (VTC) technology.
