Service Workforce Access Program for Partners (SWAPP SELECT)

What is SWAPP SELECT?

The Service Workforce Access Program for Partners (SWAPP SELECT) is an initiative of the Australian Defence Force for partners of ADF members transitioning to work in a new location. SWAPP is designed to assist partners though the provisions of career planning, specific training, and recruitment services. The aim is to facilitate ease of access to the local job market.

How to access SWAPP?

To access the employment assistance available, contact your local DCO Area Office or go to the SWAPP SELECT page on this website.

Housing

Service residences in the ACT are widely spread throughout Canberra suburbs. There are service residences in Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra. Duntroon has a limited number of houses. Due to the limited number of Service residences available it may be necessary to seek out accommodation on the rental market. For more information contact the FLOs.

Defence Housing AuthorityThe Defence Housing Authority (DHA) provides a professional relocation service to ADF personnel and Defence Families.

This includes managing Defence homes, allowances for personnel in rental accommodation and relocating personnel and their families each year.

ACT Schools

The Defence School Transition Aide Program (DSTA)

The Defence Transition Aide program provides support to the children and families of ADF members, particularly when moving in and out of a school on posting or when a parent is absent from home.

Defence School Transition Mentors (DSTMs) are located in secondary schools across Australia where there are significant numbers of ADF families.

Childcare Information

The Defence Child Care Program (DCCP), managed by the Defence Community Organisation (DCO), currently operates 32 Defence employer sponsored childcare centres across Australia. Four of these Centres incorporate before and after school and vacation care programs. Most of these centres are managed by ABC Corporate Care with one being managed under a separate joint venture arrangement. There are currently two Defence Childcare Centres in Canberra managed by ABC, one at Russell Hill and one at Aranda. A new Centre at Gungahlin is expected to come on line in December 2006.

Applications for enrolment can be obtained from the ABC National Enrolment Call Centre on 1800 222 543.
