DASS (Defence Assisted Study Scheme)

DASS exists to improve the in-service study opportunities for military personnel of all rank levels and to encourage individuals to consider professional training and education options throughout their career. DASS subsumes the former Defence Force Assisted Study Scheme (DFASS) and Services Vocational and Educational Training Scheme (SVETS) but does not provide for the development of job-specific training or military career progression qualifications. These requirements are covered by Service Civil Schooling Schemes or by Service training providers. It should also be noted that sponsorship under DASS in no way inhibits a member's ability to be posted.

Information on DASS can be found in DI(G)PERS 5-1

Application

Download the DASS application form AD105.

For more information on DASS visit the 28SQN intranet website or visit the DASS intranet website

Civil Schooling

Applications must be submitted prior to the promulgated cutoff. Accompanying supporting statements are to indicate any current studies the member is completing and whether the sponsorship requested will be full-time/part- time or external.

Continuing students must submit new applications each year of their sponsored studies.

Members who receive sponsorship for full time studies are to advise RAAFCOL where they plan to be employed during semester breaks. Members who are required to complete assignments, participate in field work or external study exercises must obtain prior written approval from RAAFCOL. PS: generally members will work at their nearest base during semester breaks which may entail completion of PFT requirements, continuation training or work in their normal mustering/category. Members may choose to take recreation leave whilst on semester breaks.

All allowable expenses for sponsored courses are processed through and reimbursed by RAAFCOL - including travel to and from compulsory residentials; Original receipts are to be submitted when seeking reimbursement; All costs associated with the training course undertaken must be identified at the time of application.

Members who are sponsored for full time study are to advise OIC Civil Schooling RAAFCOL immediately of any change of address.
