Remembrance Day 2009

In support of Remembrance Day 2009, the Community Service VECA (CSV) at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), organised Exercise ADFA Poppy to support the Returned Service League (RSL) Veteran work in the ACT.

This activity was conducted from Monday 9 – Wednesday 11 November 2009 at ADFA and involved the volunteer work of CSV Divisional Representatives.

On and around November 11 each year, ADFA sells poppies for midshipmen, officer cadets, military staff and civilian personnel to wear with pride. By wearing a red poppy, we salute the memory of those who sacrificed their health, strength, even their lives so we may live in a free country.

The event helped to recognise and support the goodwill that the RSL provides to the community and to encourage ADFA personnel to participate and promote the community service spirit.

All of these aims were achieved and $607.40 was raised for the Remembrance Day Appeal.

2nd Cadet in Charge for the event Air Force Officer Cadet Taylor said, “ The event was extremely successful with all midshipmen and officer cadets wearing their poppies with pride and despite being in exam period were able to pause at 11:00 am to remember the sacrifices of those lost and those still fighting”. ~Lest We Forget~
