ADFA Supports Relay for Life

Members of the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), through the Community Service Voluntary Extra Curricular Activity (CSV) participated in this year’s Cancer Council Relay for Life, a 24 hour charity event.

Although it was the first year ADFA has participated, the committed volunteers were determined not be outdone by the other teams. Many Midshipmen and Officer Cadets wore field packs, webbing and camouflage paint during the event.

The team baton which was to remain moving on the track at all times, was a seven kilo torsion bar, which attracted a lot of attention and inquisitive glances from the other participants.

Lending his support, the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, AM, carried the team baton for several laps of the track.

The CSV consists of Midshipmen and Officer Cadets who volunteer their time to participate in events and fundraisers around Canberra and abroad. All staff and cadet involvement in events is coordinated and organized entirely by cadets.

This year's Relay for Life was headed by New Zealand Officer Cadet Helen Kelley and Australian Army Officer Cadet David Caligari and was overseen by RAAF Officer Cadet Michael Toovey.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for ADFA Midshipmen and Officer Cadets to work with the local community to raise money for the Cancer Council and to support those who are fighting the disease.

The team will be back next year and are looking forward to a bigger and better event!
