Chief of the Defence Force Parade

346 Navy Midshipmen and Army and Air Force Officer Cadets marched on Parade on Saturday 1 March 2008 to mark the successful completion of their initial military training program at ADFA.

The Chief of the Defence Force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC, AFC congratulation these cadets, who celebrated with more than 500 of their peers, Defence and University of New South Wales staff, and family and friends.

Air Chief Marshal Houston said the completion of initial military training was a significant accomplishment for all new members of the Australian Defence Force.

“I congratulate these fine Australian men and women on their achievement.

“During the past six weeks they have learnt about leadership, physical training, adventure training, drill and ceremonial skills, equity and diversity, military law, weapons handling and field craft.

“They are developing the professional abilities and the qualities of character and leadership appropriate to future Officers, and future leaders, of the Navy, Army and Air Force.

“Over the next three to four years they will continue to develop these skills while gaining an excellent university education through the University of New South Wales at ADFA. This training will equip them to meet the many interesting and varied challenges of their military careers.

“I wish them every success during their time at ADFA and in the Australian Defence Force”.

Air Chief Marshal Houston also welcomed to the Academy students from Iraq, Tonga, Cambodia, New Zealand, and Vietnam.
