One of the main benefits at ADFA is living in a tri-Service environment with other Australian Defence Force members. The military lifestyle motivates us to study. It is a completely different experience to my first year in the Navy, and to studying at a civilian university.
I started looking into career options while I was in high school. Defence offered the chance to travel, a paid degree and guaranteed work after university, which certainly added weight to my decision to join the Navy. I was also given two years to 'road-test' a career in the Defence Force before I incurred a return of service obligation.
My training has focused on leadership, and on learning the skills I will need to be a successful officer in the Navy. I spent my first year undertaking the Naval Entry Officer Course (NEOC) at HMAS Creswell and posted to HMAS Arunta. This introduced me to life in the Navy and to my role as Weapons Engineer. I'm now in my third year at ADFA, studying Electrical Engineering.
I'm very eager to get back to sea when I finish my degree. Navy offers a range of experiences and opportunities and I'm looking forward to making the most of them.
