ACME Racing - Formula SAE Car

Formula SAE (FSAE) is an international competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers in which university students from around the world compete with one another to design, manufacture, race, and market a FSAE ‘class’ of racing vehicle.

The ACME Racing Team allows Midshipmen and Officer Cadets the chance to develop the leadership, team building, managerial and administrative skills which are demanded of officers in the ADF. There are currently over 70 students contributing to ACME Racing, from the schools of Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, and Business. 2007 is the fourth year ADFA has entered the competition.

FSAE was first developed 25 years ago in the United States. The FSAE competition now hosts 140 countries around the world, and has regional championships in Europe, South America, Asia and North America. Each team in this competition spends 12 months or more developing, manufacturing or testing a new car, to be used in the competition.

Formula SAE seeks to maximise university students learning outcomes through the practical application of theoretical concepts to produce a tangible outcome. As such, Formula SAE fosters and promotes university graduates across all faculties to develop the skills necessary to compete in today's competitive market. Formula SAE is not simply limited to engineers, but offers opportunities for students studying in many degree streams including science, arts, technology, and business disciplines.

The benefits of participation for the student members of ACME Racing are significant. This has been recognised by LTGEN David Hurley, Chief of Joint Operations, who has accepted the role of team patron and provides superb encouragement.
