Make friends that will last a lifetime

Lieutenant Kirsten Smith

Young officers at ADFA are thrown into a range of demanding and strenuous situations. The physical, mental, academic and personal challenges you undertake develop your leadership potential through teamwork and individual achievement.

As you rely upon your mates to support you, you build the foundations of strong and lasting relationships. ADFA is a unique environment, and the people you meet during three years of study and training will truly understand your achievements as you graduate and continue your career.

"ADFA is a great opportunity to make friends and contacts that last a lifetime. "

As well as close friends, one of the great things about ADFA is meeting people from the other Services. It's always enjoyable to meet up with these people during joint exercises or even just in passing. Certainly having returned to ADFA as a member of staff, it has been great to meet up with officers from my class who I haven't seen in years.

When I left the Navy it was great to keep working as a Navy Reservist. I've kept in touch with mates from ADFA, and many more I've met during ten years of Service. For the past twelve months I've been back at ADFA full time as a Divisional Officer. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience to share my experiences with young Australians, and to help them develop personally and professionally as leaders in the ADF.
