Take advantage of scholarship opportunities

Officer Cadet Stephanie Hall

When I graduated from UNSW@ADFA with a Bachelor of Arts, Navy and UNSW offered me the opportunity to undertake further studies. I have spent the last twelve months studying full time towards the qualification of Honours, writing a thesis in Middle Eastern radicalism.

"The Scholarship gave me the resources to make the most of the opportunity afforded me."

When I graduated I was awarded the A. J. Hayter Scholarship, which is a $3,000 grant for assistance with postgraduate studies. This Scholarship enabled me to purchase the many books I needed to write my thesis, and has helped me make the most of the opportunity to undertake Honours.

ADFA offers a number of scholarships, prizes and awards for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Scholarships usually assist continuing students with study, resources and travel. Prizes and awards recognise academic and military achievements over the previous year.

In addition to our studies, many advanced students assist with the military training program. We are assimilated into the duty structure, and involved in field exercise for midshipmen and officer cadets. These roles have allowed me to apply the lessons I learnt at ADFA before I enter the Fleet as a Seaman Officer.

Studying for a fourth year has been a great experience, and one which I believe will place me in good stead for the future. The skills and work ethic I have developed by undertaking such a large and lengthy project are also valuable training for the career I have ahead of me.
