The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is a unique partnership between the Australian Defence Force and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) which provides training and education for the future leaders of the Navy, Army and Air Force.
As well as developing professional skills and the qualities of character and leadership appropriate to Officers of the ADF, the tri-Service environment at ADFA fosters networks that enhance Defence capability and operational effectiveness, particularly in the joint environment.
ADFA offers undergraduate study programs to new ADF members and to serving other ranks personnel.
To new members, ADFA offers a three year program combining joint and single Service military training with a balanced and liberal tertiary education through UNSW at ADFA.
As Midshipmen and Officer Cadets, they study both an undergraduate degree program through the University of New South Wales, and a military education and training program through the Australian Defence Force. These programs include theory as well as practical subjects.
To other ranks personnel, ADFA offers full time undergraduate study opportunities through UNSW at ADFA as an avenue of transfer to commissioned rank.
