Joint Warfare and Doctrine Training Centre (JWDTC)
The competence of Australian Defence Force (ADF) joint operations depends on an effective regime that trains individuals in joint warfare doctrine, planning, procedures and tactics. This ensures sufficient selected officers and senior non-commissioned officers receive timely training that reflects current Defence policy, strategy and doctrine.
The training section at the Joint Warfare and Doctrine Training Centre is structured to provide general education and job-specific training in the concepts of joint warfare. Approximately forty courses, seminars or study periods are run during the year, reaching more than two thousand participants.
The training program covers three broad joint warfare categories: Core, Specialist, and Overseas. The core courses are the building blocks of all joint training conducted and are usually prerequisites for the specialist courses.
Australian Defence Organisation personnel moving into the joint environment or posting into liaison and operational roles are invited to participate in short courses across a range of tactical and strategic functions. These courses are designed to skill both Australian Defence Force, civilian and overseas staff to enhance their contribution in a Joint or Combined operational environment.
Considerable support is given to the conduct of overseas courses in the region or sponsored overseas students in Australia in support of the ADF's regional engagement initiatives.
A number of joint appointments in Strategic Command Division, HQAST, component Headquarters (HQ), JTF HQ and the ADFWC attract joint warfare training prerequisites. Details are contained in relevant duty statements.
Regardless of the billet prerequisites, joint warfare training at an appropriate level is encouraged for all officers posted to HQAST.
