YOLLA AWARD
The Yolla award first came about during 1973/74, when the Yolla Journal was being established.
The first editor, Michael Boyle, was asking people to make contributions to the new journal. He asked Group Captain Rob Joske what he would contribute, and Rob promised to give $100 each year for the best essay on Defence.
It was initially called the Joske Award, but was changed after a few years to the Yolla Award. GPCAPT Joske (Retired) has now been giving the Award for over 30 years!
Rob was a graduate of the first course (1/70) of Joint services Wing in 1970. He was then posted to Butterworth as the Base Commander. However, in 1974 he took early retirement for family reasons and then worked at Parliament House as Secretary to the Senate Committees for about 5 years until retiring for good.
In 2007 Rob was made an ADCA Honorary Life Member in recognition of his voluntary work with the Association and establishment and financial contribution to the Yolla Award.
