Strategy and Planning's role is to deliver education and training (E&T) strategy and policy that is based on thorough and wide analysis and research. The directorate also implements a system of financial analysis that guarantees accurate and reliable reports on the cost of Defence training and provide professional E&T advice and quality assurance services to Defence capability development authorities. Finally, Strategy and Planning also support the Defence Sports Committee by developing and implementing policy and administering sports funding.

To achieve this role, Strategy and Planning has four sections as follows:
