Learning Solution's role is to define and implement the optimal delivery approach to achieve clients' learning outcomes. They develop and communicate the ICT strategy and systems for education and training to enable Defence to meet its workforce capability requirements and develop (or oversee the external development of) education and training solutions.
Design and Development Capability
Design and Development Capability (D&DC) contributes to the services and products provided by the DLB in the area of Instructional Design (ID) and Development, by managing and supplying the design, development and maintenance of learning materials and programs, and providing advice and guidance with regard to instructor led, online and flexible learning solutions.
Functions of D&DC
- Creating design concepts to achieve Policy Owner (PO) and Service capability objectives.
- Providing advice and guidance to PO and Services on Instructional Design and Development.
- Developing project plans outlining milestones and critical dates for each development project.
- Developing course maps/flowcharts including mapping of assessment plans.
- Determining, and advising on, detailed course content structure.
- Designing and developing assessment tools.
- Planning for, and incorporating, evaluation activities where appropriate.
- Developing courses and training programmes, based on PO endorsed design.
- Developing and integrating instructional multimedia.
- Guidance and review of externally designed/developed material, against Adult Learning principles and theories.
- Updating existing courseware to achieve PO and Service capability objectives.

ICT Infrastructure
Campus
The Campus Learning Management System (LMS) is fast becoming the Australian Defence Organisation's premier LMS with upwards of
1500 online completions registered daily. Campus currently hosts over 3000 courses, both online (Web Based Training) and Face to Face (Instructor Led Training). Training nominations for these courses can be received via the paperless, electronic nomination process - eNominations - which is accessible via the Campus system.
Training Administrators (TA's) have the ability to host and manage Instructor Led Training via the Campus LMS. Once the course has been loaded to Campus, the TA has the ability to create individual Offerings (dates) that the learner can enroll into. Completions for Instructor Led Training can now be transferred to PMKeyS without any additional entry in the PMKeyS system itself. Learners have the ability to search for Web Based Training for a number of Defence specific courses, as well as a number of program specific courses via the Campus LMS. This training can be undertaken in a self paced environment. Successful completion of Web Based Training will also result in a record being created in the PMKeyS system.

Defence Learning Tool Kit
This Defence Learning Toolkit site is designed to inform Clients/APS staff about the key tasks that should be undertaken in each Phase of the Defence Training Model. The site also provides resources and templates to support the application of each phase.
Future Learning Techniques
JP2080 is the Defence HR system that will replace PMKeyS. Learning Solutions is project managing the implementation of this new system.
CIOG Liaison
Learning Solutions is the central point of contact for all ADO personnel who wish to engage and liaise with the Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG) in the Joint, Common and APS education and training space.
