The Centre for Defence Leadership Studies was established at the Australian Defence College (ADC) Weston Creek campus in January 2002. The centre has been physically located at the Australian Defence Force Academy since May 2009 and was renamed the Centre for Defence Leadership and Ethics (CDLE) on 1 June 2009.

CDLE is under the command of Mr Geoff Peterson, Acting Principal of the Centre for Defence & Strategic Studies.
