Reporting and Assessment
Assessment focuses on Course Member potential for promotion and future employment. It also provides a record of Course Member academic and personal/professional performance on the course. This assessment is reflected in a common course report for all Course Members.
Potential for promotion is based on observed course performance throughout the year and highlights the extent to which ACSC staff believe a Course Member will progress in his/her career. This narrative includes identification of those students who have clear potential for higher rank, and those who clearly do not.
Graduate Qualifications
Graduates of ACSC(J) will be granted the military qualification 'Passed Staff College (Joint)' [psc (j)].
Depending on the subjects studied, Course Members may also be granted a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma issued by ACSC in the fields of Management in Defence Studies or Strategy in Defence Studies.
Additionally, Course Members will have the option of gaining a postgraduate qualification in Defence Studies from the University of New South Wales at the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma level.
Moreover, either through further extra study during the year, or by completing two subjects after the ACSC(J) year (totaling 12 units of credit), Course Members may be awarded either a Masters of Arts in Strategy and Policy or a Masters of Arts in Strategy and Management from the University of New South Wales.
Those Course Members who complete the Navy Single Service component may also gain a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Maritime Studies from the University of Wollongong. This qualification can be articulated into a Masters of Maritime Studies upon the completion of a research paper after the ACSC(J) year.
