Mission Statement

Defence Library Service contributes to Defence capabilities by providing the right information at the right time in the preferred format, enabling Defence personnel to perform at their full potential.

The Vane Green Library

The Vane Green Library was named after Colonel Vane St Laurence Green the founding librarian of the Joint Services Wing, Weston Creek, which became the Joint Services Staff College and is now known as the Australian Defence College (ADC). Colonel Green was known for his achievements in the area of military education and today the library continues his efforts.

The Vane Green Library represents the Defence Library Service (DLS) at the ADC. As a member of the DLS network the Vane Green Library has reciprocating borrowing rights with other Defence Libraries. The Vane Green library provides support to course members and staff through a number services.

The Vane Green library provides access to an extensive collection of hardcopy and electronic materials that focus specifically on the subjects studied at the college inclusive but not limited to; international relations, strategic studies, transnational crime, counterinsurgency, leadership and critical thinking.

The Vane Green library staff also provide support to course members and directing staff through the provision of research assistance and education on the most efficient way to access library resources.
