Defence Work
Experience Program

Work Experience Could Lead to a Defence Career

To Submit an application:

  1. Find a Defence work experience placement that interests you and that you are able to attend. Details of avaliable placements can be found under 'Placements' in the menu to the left.
  2. Complete the online Defence work experience application.
  3. Submit the completed application online.

Applications must be submitted through the online application system prior to the closing date. Once the application is received, an acknowledgement via e-mail will be sent to the student.

Note: The work experience application is not confirmation of a work experience placement with Defence. A placement can only be confirmed once a work experience agreement has been signed by all parties including the Department of Defence.

What happens next:

  1. Defence will advise your school/educational institution work experience coordinator/careers advisor in writing if your application for placement is accepted.
  2. If accepted, you will receive an email containing a Work Experience Placement (WEP) agreement form.
  3. To accept the work experience placement offer:
    • complete the WEP agreement prior to the specified due date;
    • ensure that the agreement is signed by yourself, your parent/guardian (if you are under the age of 18) and your school principal/careers advisor; and
    • return it to your work experience coordinator.
  4. Your work experience coordinator/careers advisor will submit your WEP agreement to Defence for final approval.
  5. Once the agreement is approved by Defence, your school/educational institution will be provided with a copy of the approved WEP agreement in addition to information related to your attending placement.

Note: Contact your school work experience coordinator or careers advisor with any queries related to your application.
