Austal's focus on continued expansion and development in the Defence sector resulted in the acquisition of Canberra based Australian Technology Information Pty Ltd (ATI) in 2010. The acquisition brought Austal more than 20 years of systems integration experience in the defence and paramilitary market and formed the basis of Austal's systems capabilities.

These capabilities include the design and development of systems and electronics for the defence, paramilitary and civil markets. Austal has particular expertise in real time digital communications networks and command and control systems for ships and aircraft. Austal's products systems have been effectively deployed at the local and global level for more than two decades.

Austal's MAC2 is an industry leading scalable Command and Control (C2) platform. In continuous operation since 2002, MAC2 has been deployed by entities including the US Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Australian Customs Service and New South Wales Police.
