Introduction
The Defence Export Unit (DEU) will be facilitating a Team Australia stand at the following exhibitions during financial year 2012-13. These exhibitions have been identified by the DEU as providing a high level of exposure for Australia's defence industry and ones that provide an ideal entry point into the region.
Many of the exhibitions in DEU's calendar have associated missions and the DEU works with the Defence Attaches, foreign Defence Attaches, Austrade, foreign firms and industry associations for the organisation of meetings with key military, State owned and private organisations.
For defence companies new to Team Australia events, participation on the Team Australia stand is free of charge however companies are still responsible for their flights, accommodation, meals etc. An application and assessment process has also been introduced and a company's obligations to a Team Australia event are detailed in the Terms and Conditions.
The DEU reserves the right to cancel a mission if there is insufficient interest from industry and therefore encourages companies to have an export plan and to strongly commit to the region they are targeting. Commitment for many of the missions (particularly for the Middle East) is required months in advance. It takes considerable effort to organise a mission and the cultural approach to business in some regions necessitates a longer planning period.

IDEX, a tri-service exposition is held biennially in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and is by far the largest defence exposition in the region. IDEX has over 1,000 exhibitors with delegations from around the world and provides excellent access to key decision makers in the region. Team Australia has maintained a presence at IDEX since 2005 and many Australian companies have achieved success in the region as a result of their participation in Team Australia.

The follow-on mission is a key part of Team Australia's marketing strategy for the region. The mission will build on recent successful missions to the region and will demonstrate to government and company representatives that Australia is genuinely interested in working with these countries and is committed to the region.

Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA)
Applications closed on 9 November 2012 and are no longer being accepted.

Held biennially in Langkawi, Malaysia, LIMA has been a premier destination for aerospace and maritime manufacturers in the defence, enforcement, civil and commercial sectors targeting the Asia Pacific for close to 25 years. LIMA in 2013 is expected to attract in excess of 33,000 trade visitors including over 290 VIP delegates from 33 countries.

The Defence & Security International Exhibition (LAAD 2013) is a tri-service event held biennially in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To be held from 9-12 April in 2013, this event is the largest of its kind in South America attracting over 61 countries, 80 delegations, over 650 exhibitors and 30,000 trade visitors. LAAD provides an excellent opportunity for Australian defence companies to showcase their products and services to key militaries and defence decision makers in Brazil and the wider region.
The DEU is also organising a Trade Mission to Chile prior to LAAD to capitalise and build on existing business and military contacts made in early 2012. It will be conducting an exploratory Trade Mission to Colombia after LAAD to gain further insight into the market, the key challenges and opportunities for Australia's defence industry and to meet with key military, State-owned and commercial firms.

International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) with a follow-on mission within Turkey

Held under the auspices of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, IDEF is a tri-service, biennial event which brings together exhibitors, delegations and visitors from around the world. Istanbul has traditionally been at the crossroads of East and West and IDEF provides excellent exposure for defence companies seeking to market their products and capabilities.
As key decision makers for the military, government and the head offices for many businesses are based in Ankara, a mission is planned to provide companies the opportunity to present their capabilities directly to key customers. This mission will build on a recent successful mission to the region and demonstrate that Australia is serious about doing business in Turkey.

2013 International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEX Asia 2013)

Held biennially in Singapore, IMDEX Asia 2013 is one of the largest maritime exhibitions in the region and presents companies with an ideal opportunity to showcase their capabilities to key senior ASEAN decision makers. IMDEX Asia 2013 is expected to attract over 7,500 trade visitors including more than 70 VIP delegations from 40 countries.

Paris Airshow 2013
Applications are now open and will close on 29th March 2013

The 50th international Paris Airshow will bring together industry players from around the world to showcase the latest technological innovations in the aviation and space sectors. 2113 international exhibitors from 45 countries, 355,000 visitors and 290 delegations attended the Paris Airshow in June 2011. Similar if not higher attendance figures are expected in 2013.
