Complete Aircrew Training System (CATS)

The CATS is employed with Australian Army Aviation as a training tool for Helicopter Aircrewmen. CATS makes it possible to teach, practice and assess a trainee Aircrewmen across all disciplines associated with the helicopter working environment. The system was initially purchased by the ADF as the Aircrewman Virtual Reality Simulator in March 2007, and is undergoing upgrades to the CATS software version. Army Aviation currently has 7 systems in use, three at the Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey, and 2 at each of the Aviation Regiments in Townsville and Holsworthy. A CATS device was also installed at the Ministry of Defence Army Aviation Training Centre at Middle Wallop in the UK in December 2010. The Army Air Corps use their CATS to teach basic voice procedure, hoisting, external load operations and door gunnery.
