Submarine escape disability allowance

Submarine escape disability allowance makes up for the special demands of submarine escape training or underwater ascents.

Who can get submarine escape disability allowance?

You may get submarine escape disability allowance if you are a member of the:

  • Permanent Forces
  • Reserves on continuous full-time service, or
  • Reserves on Reserve service.

When can I get submarine escape disability allowance?

You may get submarine escape allowance if you:

  • are a submarine escape training instructor posted to a training facility
  • are a submarine escape training assistant instructor posted to a training facility, or
  • make an underwater ascent in the open sea.

You may get submarine escape disability allowance if you are:

  • posted to a training facility, and
  • training to become a submarine escape training instructor.

You may get submarine escape disability allowance if you:

  • are attending a course in submarine escape procedures, and
  • have to do an underwater ascent at the training facility.

You may get an annual or a daily rate of allowance.

Can I get other allowances at the same time?

If you get submarine escape disability allowance, you may not get other allowances at the same time. This includes:

  • diving allowance
  • flying disability allowance
  • Special Forces disability allowance, and
  • clearance diver allowance.
