Division B.4: Adventurous training instructor allowance

B.4.1 Purpose

Adventurous training instructor allowance recognises the responsibilities and disabilities inherent in conducting adventurous training activities.

B.4.2 Definitions

This table defines terms used in this Division.

Definitions
Term Definition
adventurous training activity Means an activity that is authorised by the CDF and included in the Adventurous Training Wing syllabus.
adventurous training instructor Means a member who holds the Service recognised qualification required to be an adventurous training instructor.
unit adventurous training leader Means a member who holds the Service recognised qualification required to be a unit adventurous training leader.

G4.3 The current range of authorised adventurous training activities is shown in Part 1 of Annex 4.2.A at the end of this Part.

B.4.3 Member this allowance applies to

Adventurous training instructor allowance may apply to a member of the Permanent Forces or Reserves who are either of the following.

  1. An adventurous training instructor.

  2. A unit adventurous training leader.

B.4.4 Conditions for eligibility

  1. An adventurous training instructor is eligible for adventurous training instructor allowance if both of the following conditions are met.

    1. The member is posted to the Adventurous Training Wing.

    2. The member is reasonably expected to undertake regular instructional duties.

  2. A unit adventurous training leader is eligible for adventurous training allowance for an activity if all the following conditions are met.

    1. The activity is an adventurous training activity.

    2. The member is authorised by the commanding officer or officer commanding to lead the activity.

    3. The member conducts the activity.

  3. To avoid doubt, a unit adventurous training leader is not eligible for the allowance for any of the following associated activities.

    1. Pre- and post-activity planning and administration.

    2. Reconnaissance for an adventurous training activity.

    3. Adventurous training club activities.

    4. Attendance as a student on a unit adventurous training leader course.

    5. Attendance as a student on a course of an adventurous nature.

    6. Participation in personal adventurous training activities.

G.4.4 In order for the allowance to be payable, a qualified leader's authorisation must be in writing. A qualified leader must have received certification from an authorised person that the activity has been completed and the relevant detail entered in the member's unit adventurous training leader log book (Form AC 660), in the format shown in Part 3 of Annex 4.2.A at the end of this Part, before a payment can be made.

B.4.5 Annual rate of allowance

A member on continuous full-time service who is eligible under subsection B.4.4.1 is to be paid the annual rate listed for item 5, table 1 in Part F of this Determination.

B.4.6 Daily rate of allowance

The eligible member is to receive the daily rate of adventurous training instructor allowance as set out in the following table.

Note: In the total workforce model, a member on Reserve service may be described as a member in Service category 3, 4 or 5. A member on Service option C is not a member on Reserve service.

B.4.7 Interactions with other allowances

Entitlement to adventurous training instructor allowance does not exclude entitlement to payment of any other allowance.

Note: Other allowances may not permit payment of this allowance for the same period.

B.4.8 Transition and sunset provision

Saving and transitional provisions for adventurous training instructor allowance are provided in Part E of this Determination.

B.4.9 Qualifications

  1. A register to record the currency of unit adventurous training leader qualifications is to be maintained by the Army Adventurous Training Centre.

  2. A record of qualifications detailing the date the initial qualification was received and the dates of re-certification is to be maintained in the front of the unit adventurous training leader log book.

  3. A unit adventurous training leader's qualification is to be reviewed and re-certified by a certifying officer two years after the receipt of the initial qualification and each two years after that.

  4. If authorised by a certifying officer, an extension of the review period may be granted for a period not exceeding a further six months.

Application to Reservists: Yes, in certain circumstances approved by the Tribunal.
