Navy Engineer Employment Categories

This determination renames the engineer officer employment categories' classification descriptor, replacing 'Level 2' with 'Principal Engineer or Subordinate Materiel Governance Authority'. The changes will be available in Chapter 3 Part 1 Schedule B.2 on the date of effect.

Flexible service determination

Amendments ensure a member is not remunerated for a period where they are not performing their pattern of service during a flexible service determination. These changes are available in Chapter 3 Part 1 Part A, Chapter 4 Part 2 Part A and Part 3

Housing and Sydney apartment trial

The provisions for rejecting a suitable Service residence have been amended for a member participating in the Puckapunyal housing trial. The provisions for when the CDF may approve the change of a Service residence have been amended. The provisions for the Sydney apartment trial have been removed as the trial has ceased. These changes are available in Chapter 7 Part 6 Division 7. Chapter 7 Part 6 Division 10 has been removed.

Education assistance and reunion travel

Provides an annual update to education assistance rates, extends education assistance to a member on long-term posting overseas for their child in tertiary education in Australia who completed high school considerably earlier than their peers, makes several changes to overseas reunuion travel and amends the benchmark school for Cherbourg, France. The changes are available in Chapter 9 Part 3 Division 3, Part 6 Division 4 and Chapter 15 Part 6 Annex 15.6.A.

Long service leave

Amends the provision relating to the gap between two periods of service and how a member converts prior service to accrued service for the purposes of long service leave.The changes are available in Chapter 5 Part 5 Division 3.

Compassionate travel

Extends compassionate travel to a member's spouse or partner where their sibling has died and provides clarification of what is an exceptional reason for which compassionate travel may be granted. The changes are available in Chapter 9 Part 3 Division 8.

Serious illness, long service leave and travel

Corrects an error in the definition for 'serious illness', provides that a member who is medically unfit for service is eligible for a pro rata payment of long service leave and creates a CDF power to approve travel by private vehicle for a member granted recreation leave. The changes are available in Chapter 1 Part 3 Division 1, Chapter 5 Part 5 Division 5 and Chapter 9 Part 6 Division 4.

Funeral costs

Revises funeral benefits for deceased members including providing more flexibility for members belonging to a variety of religions. The changes are available in Chapter 11 Part 4 and Chapter 15 Part 9.

Door-to-door travel

Provides a more comprehensive definition of door-to-door travel and specifies at the relevant travel provisions where door-to-door travel applies. This change is available throughout Chapter 9.

Short-term overseas duty travel and benchmark schools

Amendments are made to provisions for the payment of travel costs for members travelling on short-term overseas duty to include Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau and to the primary and secondary benchmark schools for Canada. These changes are available in Chapter 13 Part 3 Annex 13.3.A and Chapter 15 Part 6 Annex 15.6.A.

Hardship and location allowances

Lumut in Malaysia has been included as a hardship location for hardship post conditions of service. This change is available in Annex 16.A and Annex 16.B.
