Part 5: Retention and completion benefits

3.5.1 Overview

This Part contains guidelines for a range of payments that encourage certain members to continue serving in the Permanent Forces.

Note: In the total workforce model, a member of the Permanent Forces may be described as a member in Service category 6 or 7.

3.5.2 Members on part-time leave without pay

  1. Subsection 2 applies to a member who meets both the following conditions.

    1. They need to complete a required period of effective service to be eligible for a completion bonus.

    2. They have been granted a period of part-time leave without pay.

  2. The required period of effective service is increased pro rata in relation to the period of part- time leave without pay, in accordance with the formula in section 5.10.16.

    Example: A member has completed three of five years required for a completion bonus. They go on part-time leave without pay for 6 days a fortnight. They need to serve a further two years increased by 20%, which is two years and 4.8 months.

  3. Subsection 4 applies to a member who meets both the following conditions.

    1. They have signed an undertaking for a retention bonus under this Part.

    2. They have been granted a period of part-time leave without pay.

  4. Unless otherwise limited the rules in a Division, a period of continuous full-time service mentioned in that Division or in the undertaking means a period increased pro rata by the period of leave without pay.

    Note: In the total workforce model, a period of continuous full-time service may be described as service in Service category 6 or 7. A member who is in Service category 3, 4 or 5 who is also on Service option C is also on continuous full-time service.

Application to Reservists: Yes, in certain circumstances approved by the Tribunal.
