Business owner and former Horsham-District AFL footballer Adam Hall has just completed a seven-month deployment to the Middle East on Operation Accordion.
The Former Taylors Lake spearhead joined the Australian Army Reserves in 2011 and, as Private (PTE) Adam Hall, he is a member of the 2nd Force Support Battalion – 15 Force Support Squadron / 128 Transport Troop at the James Lawson Dept in Horsham.
He deployed to Australia’s main operations base in the Middle East region (MER) for Operation Accordion as a member of Force Support Element (FSE-5).
FSE-5 provides logistic and personnel support and in-theatre induction training for ADF personnel deploying to the Middle East.
Some of their tasks include managing and distributing supplies and equipment necessary for the conduct of operations.
PTE Hall said as a member of the transport section his role on operations was to operate and maintain light and heavy duty vehicles in all terrain, day and night.
"My deployment was great, I gained valuable skill sets that I can utilise in my day to life and my business," PTE Hall said.
"I would recommend any one interested in doing reserve work to give it a go, it's a great way to obtain life skills, travel Australia, the world and challenge themselves."
Adam, 39 said he wanted to contribute to the nation's security.
"I also wanted to challenge myself and gain extra knowledge and skills," he said.
Adam, a self employed driving instructor, employed a part-time operator to look after the business while he was deployed for his part-time career.
"My business is called Wimmera Driving School and I operate both manual and automatic vehicles," he said.
"We operate 7 days a week, all hours and in all conditions – not unlike what we train for in Army."
He has just qualified as an accredited Keys2Drive driving instructor.
Operation Accordion's mission is to support the sustainment of ADF operations, enable contingency planning and enhance regional relationships in the MER.
Currently there are more than 1700 ADF members deployed to the MER. The ADF remains actively involved in advising, assisting and training Iraqi Security Forces in Iraq; training and advising the Afghan National Defence Security Forces in Afghanistan; and maritime security duties throughout the MER.
