When critical spare parts and stores are needed by the Australian Defence Force in the Middle East, Morphettville local and Royal Australian Air Force Corporal Paul Hockridge is the one who gets things moving.
Paul specialises in logistics and works at Australia's main base in the Middle East using his military qualifications that are of great value in the civilian world.
"I apply my training in many different areas of logistics," he said.
"Some skills include dangerous goods packing and explosive ordinance packing, handling and storage."
Paul can also drive forklifts and fuel tankers, refuel aircraft and ship items worldwide.
Growing up in Morphettville, Paul always wanted to become a pilot and joined the Air Force Cadets which lead him to join the Air Force at 19.
"I love my job," he said.
"I get to do a job which contributes to Australia being safe and life being stable.
"I have great respect for the people in the past who have done it hard and put their lives on the line for the rest of Australia."
This is Paul's third deployment to the Middle East after first serving there in 2009.
His future goals include advancing his career and being promoted.
"I'd like to be able to train and make a difference in other people's lives under my command," he said.
"Make sure they work to the best of their ability and want to strive for more each day."
As a storeman on operations, he helps manage, procure and store equipment for the Air Force.
"Social interaction is a very big part of my work," he said.
"No matter which part of the job you are in, you will have to talk people who place orders."
Paul is not only social at work but on the field as well.
Back in Australia, Paul is based at RAAF Williamtown and plays hockey for the local Port Stephens Hornets Hocky Club in Newcastle, NSW.
"When I get home, our family will be taking some time away from work and having a holiday," he said.
"It will be great to spend some quality time together and welcome our family back together again."
Paul is deployed on Operation ACCORDION, supporting Australian Defence Force personnel across the Middle East Region including Afghanistan for Operation HIGHROAD and Operation MANITOU in the maritime environment.
