Amber Cole - Port Adelaide

For Port Adelaide’s Amber Coles, one of the highlights of being a sailor in the Royal Australian Navy is having a second family on board HMAS Stuart.

Seaman Coles is a Maritime Logistics Steward and is lucky enough to be on her second overseas deployment to Singapore for three weeks during exercises Singaroo and Bersama Lima.

Amber also visited Singapore earlier this year during Operation Resolute where the lead-up involved the ship circumnavigating Australia, which was the highlight of the trip for her.

Prior to arrival in Singapore, Amber took part in exercise Kakadu which is a multi-national exercise off the coast of Darwin.

Amber loves the Navy because she has been able to make a lot of life-long friends which is very important to her, and she never passes up the opportunity to go home to visit her family and have one of her Dad’s home cooked meals.

Amber is involved in serving meals and assisting the Officers on board. Amber also has a secondary duty where she assists as in the Ships Medical Emergency Team.

"I really enjoy my job and I take pride in the presentation of the food we deliver and for making the officers' feel at home" Amber says.

"I grew up in Port Adelaide and my family still live there. I am a very passionate Port Adelaide supporter."

"When we are next home I will be visiting my older sister in Ballarat and also the rest of my family in Port Adelaide. I can't wait to watch my little sister who is involved with Seaton Calisthenics. I am extremely proud of her, especially as she recently received her first trophy."

After completing her studies at Mount Carmel College, Amber joined the Navy in July last year where she completed initial training then her trade training at HMAS Cerberus. She  then had the opportunity to work in the Wardroom at HMAS Cerberus for three months which she thoroughly enjoyed. Amber joined HMAS Stuart in March 2014.

Amber's influences for joining the Defence force include her Dad who was in the Australian Army in the Armed corps. He was serving at Puckapunyal in Victoria when Amber was born.

HMAS Stuart will return to her home port of Sydney in early November 2014.
