The Defence communications cabling infrastructure is the foundation that enables Defence to conduct business in the network medium and manage its facilities and utility assets. Cabling infrastructure on Defence sites differs from commercial installations in the standard of security measures applied in design and installation. Defence incorporates recognised national and international standards combined with specific security measures to comply with Whole of Government and Defence specific security criteria.

The Purpose of this document is to provide standards for Information Communications Technology (ICT) cabling within the Department of Defence in order to simplify and standardise cabling across Defence end to end.
