The Defence Support (DS) Spatial Data Management Plan (SDMP) has been developed to provide standards and specifications for spatial data management.

The standards and specifications within the SDMP will improve data consistency and availability of information, and facilitate spatial information dissemination andProcess sharing within DS. With its use, DS will achieve a standardised approach to spatial data management that will realise many benefits to both the organisation and its staff including:

  • Consistent and more reliable data that will lead to more informed decision making;
  • Closer integration with other DS information systems and Defence spatial data users;
  • Portability of staff skills; and
  • Greater interoperability with organisations outside of Defence.

The SDMP shall be used by spatial data users both within Defence and Defence Contractors, and data managers within DS. It is the responsibility of data users to implement the SDMP Specifications and produce data in accordance with thespecifications.

A Spatial Data Overlay Management Plan (SDOMP) can be developed to guide business areas in defining their spatial operational data layers.

Please contact Manager, Spatial Systems to assist in development of SDOMP's. SDMP
