The Naval Civilian Engineer Development Program (Naval CEDP) has been designed to offer the best engineering training around. We want our graduates to be the best in their field. The Naval CEDP is recognised by Engineers Australia and enables our engineers to actively head towards Chartered Status.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Industrial rotation or secondment to give a practical element to your career development and to meet organisational needs. (This is subject to funding availability.)
  • Research projects to develop your analysis and research skills.
  • Visits to give you an appreciation of manufacturing processes and maintenance procedures.
  • Networking opportunities to develop your team working skills.
  • 'Sea riding' to give you personal experience of life on-board naval ships, and let you see first hand the effect design decisions taken during ship construction have on the ship and its crew.

Overview:

The Naval Civilian Engineer Development Program runs for 36-months and includes six work rotations of six months each at various locations. These include:

  • One industry rotation (outside the Department of Defence) that can be done in Canberra or elsewhere.
  • One rotation at either the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group or the Defence Science and Technology Group.
  • Four rotations in the Naval Technical Bureau.

You will get optimum exposure to a variety of engineering opportunities through both on-the-job and off-the-job training. Our specialist training courses have been designed to develop your functional competencies and deepen your engineering knowledge. Our general training courses have been designed to develop your core competency skills and encourage greater efficiencies when you’re working in an office environment.

Our Program is recognised by Engineers Australia, and is structured to help engineers achieve appropriate levels of professional competency, for recognition toward Chartered Status. Chartered Status is a professional credential recognised by government, business and the general public worldwide. We will continue to fund your membership with EA or other appropriate professional body while ever you meet the requirements of Navy and are working towards or maintaining Chartered Status.
