Corporal Damien Richardson enlisted into the Australian Army in 2011 as an Armoured Crewman before transferring to become a Physical Training Instructor. He is posted to the 1st Close Health Battalion at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane.

Damien was a competitive rower for Buckingham Rowing Club, in Tasmania, before enlistment. Damien was fortunate enough to represent Tasmania at numerous regattas as well as his state and country at the 2009 Youth Olympics Festival. Damien has been out of the sport since 2010 but has made a swift comeback during the selection process and placed 4th in the Men's Club Double, alongside Major Tom Cregan, at the 2019 Sydney International Rowing Regatta.

Damien is married with a one-year old daughter who have been very supportive throughout the selection process and will eagerly await Damien's return from England – hopefully with the King's Cup.
