Long Tan mural in Iraq

Private Danny Jacobsen (26) of Bundoora VIC, is the artist behind Combat Team Heeler's mural at the Overwatch Battle Group (West) in Southern Iraq.
21 April - Soldiers from Overwatch Battle Group (West) 4, have honoured their forebears with a mural depicting the battle of Long Tan. The mural has been painted on a blast barrier in front of the headquarters at Camp Terandak, in Iraq.

Private Danny Jacobsen spent more than one month working on the mural when he was not on patrol, along with a few helpers.

The centerpiece of the mural is a painted replica of the Long Tan Memorial at 6 RAR's lines in Brisbane. While the blast barriers themselves were painted as a background, the Long Tan mural, including the Honour Roll from that battle, was painted on a wooden canvas.

Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers helped Private Jacobsen set up the flag pole and bolt the mural onto the wall.”

In addition to the mural, the 6RAR soldiers have also honoured their heritage by naming some of their patrols after legendary Long Tan veteran Sergeant Alcorta.
