Youth crew wanted to sail tall ship Young Endeavour

16 – 23 year old Australians will once again have the opportunity to crew the tall ship Young Endeavour in 2010, and no previous sailing experience is required.

A voyage on Young Endeavour is an adventure of a lifetime and an opportunity develop teamwork and leadership skills from a world-wide recognised program; recently awarded Sailing Training Program of the Year from Sail Training International.

During an 11 day voyage, youth crew are trained by staff from the Royal Australian Navy. They climb the 30m mast, set sails, navigate, keep watch and take the helm. They also take command of the ship for 24 hours.

Since 1988, the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme has organised dynamic voyages in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and over 11,000 young Australians have taken part in a Young Endeavour voyage. 20 voyages a year sail in Australian coastal waters.

“The Young Endeavour will change your life. It’s only a few days but what you take away is for a life time,” said Roslyn Irwin, who recently sailed from Brisbane to Bundaberg.

“This was one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced or been lucky enough to participate in, it was very rewarding and I’ve learnt a lot about myself and others,” said Alex Stebder who sailed this year from Sydney to Georgetown, Tasmania.

For the first time in eight years, the Young Endeavour is circumnavigating Australia, visiting Darwin, Broome, Exmouth, Fremantle and Esperance, as well as usual ports in Adelaide, Williamstown, Sydney, Airlie Beach, Townsville and Cairns.

2010 Voyage program:  From January – July the Young Endeavour departs from the following locations: Sydney, Newcastle, Williamstown, Hobart, Brisbane, Bundaberg and Mackay.
