The key to maintaining the ADF as a first class military force is having the right people with the right skills and experience they need to succeed in complex military operations. - The Defence White Paper 2000

Defence recognises that its people are the key to capability. With that in mind, the role of People Strategies and Policy Group is to provide policies and services that attract, recruit, develop, retain and transition the right people.

Defence's need for skilled personnel has never been greater, and as technology increases, this need will only ever grow.

In order to attract, train and retain suitable personnel, Defence must compete with the private sector as an employer of choice.

The aim of PSPG, therefore, is to assist Defence in putting its people first, not just its service and civilian members, but their families as well.

People working in PSPG are engaged in activities that support pay and conditions of service, recruitment, deployment, posting and resource allocation for both ADF and APS employees. This includes developing, refining, amending, updating and communicating policy and working closely with DSG to achieve effective implementation.
