Remembrance Day, 11 November 2016
Staff and students at DITC gathered together on the 11th Day of the 11th month at precisely 11 AM to commemorate the exact time when the guns fell silent to mark the end of the First World War in 1918. It was known then as 'the war to end all wars'. Sadly, it did not turn out to be the case, even though millions of people sacrificed their lives, many of them lying in unmarked graves. In Australia we call this day Remembrance Day and we symbolize the blood that was shed by the wearing of a red poppy, the flower that first grew in the fields in which many died. Thank you to all who participated and honoured their memory. Lest we forget.
