Afghan Flag Presentation, 05 August, 2015
The flag of Afghanistan was presented to the CO DITC yesterday to mark the welcoming of our first student from Afghanistan. During the course of the ceremony, our proud student described the meaning of the three colours on the flag; black for its troubled past, red for the blood shed during independence and green representing hope for the future. The national emblem in the centre features a mosque flanked by two flags, circled by two sheaves of wheat. The date of independence is written in arabic numerals; 1298 on the Islamic calendar (1919 on the Gregorian calendar). Welcome to our new friend from Afghanistan.
