DIGO Geospatial Technician Training Program (DGTTP)
The DIGO Geospatial Technician Training Program (DGTTP) is a nationally-recognised qualification through workplace-based training and assessment at the Geospatial Analysis Centre (GAC), Bendigo, Victoria. The GAC provides the primary source of geospatial information and support to the Department of Defence – specifically to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Australian Intelligence Community.
Introduction
This program is offered to newly-recruited and existing staff at GAC in Bendigo.
DIGO is a member of the Defence Learning and Services Network (DLSN), a registered training organisation (RTO), enabling us to conduct workplace training which is assessed against a set of industry standards and offer a nationally-recognised qualification issued through the DLSN. DIGO recognises qualifications issued through other RTOs such as TAFEs, universities and the ADF, eg, geomatic engineering qualifications issued through the School of Military Engineering.
The DGTTP is a competency-based workplace-assessed program offered to new and current employees conducted over a period of up to 18 months, and includes formal and informal training and on-the-job training and assessment. This period is followed by a further 6 months placement to develop specialist skills. Due to the length of the program, participants will be eligible for performance progression payments if they participate in the Performance Feedback Assessment and Development Scheme (PFADS) and are found to be fully effective. More information can be found at www.defence.gov.au/graduates/probation.htm
New employees will be on probation for at least 24 months or until they complete the full training program requirement plus 6 months. If you possess a Diploma in Spatial Information Services or an equivalent qualification, please bring verifiable evidence with you to the selection interview and on your first day of training.
Participants entering this program may be engaged to work in a photogrammetric geospatial exploitation environment, therefore having well-developed stereoscopy and stereo-acuity abilities are major prerequisites. Successful candidates will be employed under the current Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement.
The DGTTP
It is important to note the DGTTP does not offer the full instructional content offered on a diploma course delivered through a TAFE or university.
The GAC training program uses industry standards for assessment, enabling the issue of a nationally-recognised qualification. The program is structured to delivering production workflows and processes currently in place at the GAC in Bendigo.
During the training program, trainees will receive training in the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to work within a Defence, intelligence and public service environment producing geospatial information for the ADF.
DIGO employees have access to additional learning and training resources such as Defence online training and courses.
