Mapping - Geospatial Analysis Centre
The Geospatial Analysis Centre (GAC), formerly the Defence Topographic Agency (DTA), is responsible for the provision of maps, charts and digital topographic support to the Australian Defence Force. It is totally staffed by Department of Defence civilians. GAC is currently housed in the heritage listed Fortuna Villa in Bendigo, Victoria. In late 2008 it will be relocating to a purpose built facility on the outskirts of Bendigo at Longlea.
Future Direction
The Defence systems used in the field depend upon accurate and current digital data which will meet fast evolving standards being developed by the international Defence geomatics community. GAC will need to remain abreast of emerging military digital data formats and standards.
