  • Engine certification test videos
  • Fatigue lifting process for engine critical components
  • Assessing the risk of failure for engine critical components
  • Managing engine component life limit reductions
  • Exercise – Risk management exercise (based on a life reduction)
  • F404/414 Engine test cell visit (if available)

Day 3

  • Power plant fleet & system health monitoring
  • Condition monitoring case study – TF30 RAM Program
  • Exam
  • Condition monitoring demonstrations: remote visual inspection, engine oil filter patch analysis
  • Engine Workshop tour

Presenters
Mr Matt Hansell (BE, MSc Thermal Power) Aero Systems Business Manager, QinetiQ Pty Ltd. Mr Hansell has extensive gas turbine experience working within the ADF Technical Airworthiness System.
Officer-In-Charge, Engine Structural Integrity section (OIC-ESI1), DGTA. The OIC of ESI1 is responsible for leading a team of 5 personnel who perform specialist engineering management and technical airworthiness oversight of all ADF engine systems.

Qualification
Upon successful completion of the course including passing an assessment, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. For ADO personnel the course will be listed against your PMKeys profile.

Dress
Military. Military dress of the day, with long pants and enclosed shoes.
Civilian. Neat civilian attire, with long pants and enclosed shoes.

Meals
Light morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Attendees must make their own arrangements for lunch.

Accommodation
Individuals are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

Course Pre-Requisites

To be eligible to attend the course, applicants must be either:

  1. Australian Defence Organisation (ADF/APS) personnel, or
  2. Defence Contractor personnel,

who are currently involved in (or planning to be involved in) ADF aero engine acquisitions and/or in-service management.
The content is aimed at tertiary qualified (TQ) engineers and suitably experienced non-TQ personnel. ‘Suitable experience’ would include SGT (E) or higher ranked positions in engine workshops or AEO engine management cells, for example.

Target Audience The Propulsion Systems Engineering (PROPSYSENG) Course developed by the Engine Structural Integrity section of DGTA (ESI-DGTA) aims to provide engineering and technical personnel involved in ADF aviation with increased awareness and understanding of:
  • ADF and civil processes for certifying new aero engines into service
  • ADF technical regulations pertaining to in-service aero engines
Class Size

There are 20 positions available. The course is often oversubscribed. Due to demand, business units are requested to limit nominations to a maximum of two per course. Attendees will be allocated on a needs basis as determined by OIC-ESI1 following the closing date. ESI Managers (as defined by Technical Airworthiness Regulation 3.5.5) and other positions with explicit training requirements to attend the PROPSYSENG stipulated in local instructions will have first preference. Nominees will be advised of the outcome within 3 business days after nominations close.

Cost

ADO Personnel: DGTA-ADF funds the cost of the course for ADO personnel.
Defence contractors: Course cost is $1,250 (GST Inclusive).
Travel, meals and accommodation costs:

For uniformed RAAF personnel ONLY:   You will be sponsored from DGPERS-AF funds for incidentals and domestic travel to and from the course location. This will be confirmed in the formal call for nominations via a DP-AF course panelling message. Once at the training location, all accommodation, meals and transport costs are the responsibility of the member's parent Unit.
For all other ADO personnel and Defence contractors: The individual’s parent unit/organisation is responsible for funding travel, meals and accommodation to attend this course.  This also applies when the individual is at the training location.
NB: Individual participants are responsible for organising their travel, meals and accommodation to attend this course.
