Course Content

The aim of this course is to graduate personnel with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to perform NDT duties as a Level 2 Technician

This course provides theory and practical instruction in NDT Technician Level 2 duties including the utilisation of NDT methods and equipment to perform testing of Aerospace structures, components and GSE in two phases. Phase 1 is 17 weeks duration and is conducted at the NDT Standards Laboratory (RAAF AMB). During this stage, training is provided in basic materials technology, basic electrical technology, visual and optical techniques and the following NDT methods: liquid penetrant testing, magnetic testing, eddy current testing, ultrasonic testing and radiographic testing. Stage 2 training is 12 months minimum and is conducted on-the-job.


Target Audience

Air Force with substantive CPL rank who are qualified technicians within the ATECH, AVTECH, or ADASTFITT musterings, or recognised equivalent from the other Services or Civilian sector.

Training Nominations

All NDTSL courses are registered on PMKeyS. When nominating for a course, member's Unit Training Coordinator (UTC) or delegate is to nominate on PMKeyS. Due to limited course numbers it is recommended amplifying comments accompany all course nominations.

Contractors. In accordance with DI(G) PERS 05-34 - Policy Framework for Defence Training Support to Contractors, civilian contractor nominations are to be forwarded and authorised through their relevant sponsoring System Project Office (SPO). Directorate Personnel – Air Force (DP-AF) will only accept nominations from the SPO's nominated liaison officer.
