Course Content

The aim of this course is to provide design engineers with the knowledge and technical skills to assist in structural integrity management of ADF aircraft adhesively bonded structures IAW DEF(AUST)9005.

On completion of the course, the graduate is to be able to:

  • Evaluate damage to aircraft structure.
  • Assess repair-ability using adhesive bonding technology.
  • Design adhesive bonded repairs for aircraft structures.
  • Specify appropriate materials and processes for repair fabrication and application.
  • Specify quality management procedures associated with the design and application

Target Audience

Students are to be Tertiary Qualified (TQ) AERO Engineers with a sound understanding of Mohr's Circle of Stress and Strain and Matrix Algebra. Students are to be directly, or have the potential of being directly involved in the adhesive bonded repair design process.

Training Nominations

Defence Personnel: All BSTT courses are registered on PMKeyS. When nominating for a course, the member's Unit Training Coordinator (UTC) or delegate is to nominate on PMKeyS. Due to limited course numbers it is recommended detailed amplifying comments and priority upgrade accompany all course nominations.

Contractors: In accordance with Defence Personnel Instruction (DPI) NO 3/2005 (Provision of Defence Training Support to External Service Providers) and DPI NO 445/2005 (Financial Transactions between the Defence Materiel Organisation and the rest of Defence that are not covered by the current Suite of Agency Agreements) civilian contractor nominations are to be forwarded and authorised through their relevant sponsoring System Project Office (SPO). Directorate Personnel - Air Force (DP-AF) will only accept nominations from the SPO's nominated liaison officer. Authorisation from the sponsoring SPO regards Course Cost Recovery must be given prior to nomination.
