The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) is an Australian Government agency. They provide support and provide information for:

They provide assistance for:

  • transitioning members

  • veterans and former service members

  • families and carers of veterans

  • widows and widowers

  • dependent children

  • Ex-Service organisations and advocates

  • Health and service providers

DVA support and services include:

  • financial assistance through pensions and compensation, with new immediate crisis financial support when claiming for mental health conditions

  • health care to manage health and lifestyle

  • 24 Hour counselling services

  • complimentary At Ease tailored mental health tools and resources including videos and apps, for serving, transitioning, post service members and their families, and health providers.

  • help for servicemen and women returning to civilian life

  • home care assistance

  • subsidised loans for housing and other housing-related benefits

DVA acknowledges and commemorates the service and sacrifice of the men and women who are or have through:

  • commemorative events and services

  • war memorials and cemeteries, and gardens of remembrance

  • commemorative and community grants

Leaving the ADF?

DVA knows there are a few steps to prepare you. We are committed to improving the way we support you through your transition to ensure:

  • you and your family connect to needed services and support prior to leaving the ADF

  • receive support submitting claims via an experienced face-to-face single point of contact on base

  • you and your family have confidence in your financial situation

  • you have access to necessary professional health care

  • you and your family have a clear understanding of who to contact for further support
